Located on the southern tip of New Jersey, Cape May Point State Park is a major site on the NJ Coastal Heritage Trail. The park includes an environmental center that houses a classroom for related programs and a museum on the Cape May areas natural and historic features. Cape May Point State Park is open from dawn to dusk. The park is closed at night. The park has a beach wheel chair available to the public. Several cut trails lead visitors to large coastal dunes, marshes and ponds. This natural area is known along the East Coast for its resident and migratory birds and includes habitat suitable for northern and southern species of fauna and flora. The Cape May lighthouse is still an aid to navigation for maritime business. Visitors who decide to venture up the 199 steps to the top of the lighthouse will see a spectacular panoramic view of the scenic Cape May peninsula. Located in the park is the World War II Fire Control Tower Fire Control Tower 23. It’s New Jersey’s last remaining World War II tower, which was part of the immense Delaware Bay harbor defense system known as Fort Miles.
